CFP Thoughts

It’s a new year, with a new set of predictions. Here’s mine for the year.

CFB THOTS:

Week 0 Pick:

Since it’s only two games I think I’m gonna go ahead and pick this week’s games.

I’m picking FLORIDA over Miami by 10ish points. My gut feel has this at a 30ish to 20ish type of game, but feel free to surprise me, either team.

As for the other game, I’m picking HAWAII over Arizona. I can’t give a score guess but it just feels right.

All right, now onto the overall year.

BIG 12

I think I’d be remiss if I didn’t pick OKLAHOMA to win the Big 12 for the 5th year running. OU’s offense will be as good as ever, and the defense can literally only go up. While I hope OU doesn’t drop a game in conference play, I feel like it’s going to happen. My guess is either against Iowa State, or in Bedlam against OSU. I think the new defense, along with Texas’s loss of Lil’Jordan and a few other big players won’t lead to a repeat of the RRS from last year. My guess is going to be a record of 12-1 with an invite to the CFP, again.

#2 pick: IOWA STATE (they beat Iowa btw)

#3 pick: OKLAHOMA STATE

#4 pick: TEXAS

T4 pick: BAYLOR

Beyond these five I don’t feel like I have a good enough guess as to what’s going to happen in the Big 12 I more or less feel that Kansas State will probably come out on top, but between Tech, WVU, and TCU I can’t really decide. Kansas will be last tho.

BIG 10

For the sake of simplicity I’m going to divide this into two sections, west and east.

WEST

I don’t know a lot about the B1G, but I do know a few things. Nebraska’s going to fall flat on their face, with a couple of silly wins, Wisconsin will probably do well, and Northwestern will surprise us again. I can’t decide between Wisconsin and Northwestern for the division win though.

EAST

I think this might be Michigan’s year. Right now, I see them winning THETM Game and getting past An Ohio State University to win the East. Speaking of aOSU, I think they’re going to lose to the Huskers because why not. Probably win against Penn State, and maybe drop something else along the way to like, Indiana.

I think MICHIGAN wins the Big 10, but is just outside of getting a CFP invite.

ACC

CLEMSON wins, but drops something. Either to the Aggies or something silly to like BC or FSU. Maybe to SC. As for the Costal division, I think Virginia Tech wins that side this year. Georgia Tech will improve while Miami flounders after a couple of weird upsets. FSU misses a bowl game again and their coach gets fired.

SEC

First of all, Georgia is going to beat ND. That’s a non conference game but who cares. I’m predicting a weird repeat of 2017 in the SEC this year. Georgia wins the east handily, and ends up facing LSU or Auburn, depending on which one beats Alabama. Alabama is undefeated otherwise.

PAC 12

Time for a little PAC 12 after dark. I think Oregon is overhyped this year. They might win against UW, but I think they fall to the Cougs again. Cougs win the north, but I think they coug it big time in the Apple Cup. The PAC 12 south is a joke, so Utah wins it again pretty easily. I think the Cougs come out on top for the Pac 12.

The American

I think Tulsa wins FOUR games this year! Houston will go 7-5 before losing in a bowl game again. UCF wins the conference because UCF, but probably not undefeated. Maybe a 9-3 with the NY6 invite. The AAC puts up better numbers than the PAC 12 but still doesn’t get any respect because >group of 5.

Mountain West

I like Boise State this year.

MAC

#MACTION

C-USA

I like UNT.

Sun-Belt

Troy? Idk.

Independents (aka I only know stuff about Notre Dame and Army)

I think Notre Dame is going to go 8-4. Two losses coming from UGA and Michigan.

And for Army, I think Army has another great season. Maybe not as good but still a solid season. They beat Navy again.

BIG RIVALRY GAMES

Red River Shootout: Oklahoma

THETM Game: Michigan

The Iron Bowl: Auburn

The Apple Cup: Washington

The World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party: Georgia

Clemson/SC: Clemson (tentatively)

USC/Notre Dame: USC

El Assico: Iowa State

Farmageddon: K-State

Michigan/Michigan State: Michigan

Florida/Florida State: Florida

CFP PICKS:

I think the final order is going to be

  1. Clemson
  2. Georgia
  3. Oklahoma
  4. Michigan/Alabama

The number 4 choice is a little difficult. In a lot of ways I see this as a repeat of the 2017 season, but maybe with OU actually winning a playoff game. I think it’s going to be a controversial choice for #4 no matter what happens and people will start talking about expanding the playoffs again.

My tentative pick for the overall winner this year is…….for the first time in nearly 40 years……GEORGIA!
